Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral form of Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate , it's colorless to white and could have reddish , brown or yellow colors due to impurities, it is very soft and water soluble. It is fire resistant because of its water content. 
It has been used in fertilizer, for loosening soils, in plaster and drywall , fire resistant coatings.
